⚠ Security update (August 1, 2026): A serious firmware vulnerability in Coldcard devices was exploited on July 31 — a bug silently bypassed the hardware random number generator, and roughly $38M was reportedly stolen from ~500 affected wallets. If this is your first hardware wallet, the Q is more device than you need, and the source-verifiable-but-not-fully-open license model matters to some purists. A Trezor Safe 3 or the smaller Coldcard Mk4 will get a beginner to safety with less friction. Price: around $249.
